From 1890 to 1921 this site served as a place to circle the wagons and water the horses, as ranchers waited to ship their cattle and cotton across the country. In the late 1920's this Ranchman's Headquarters became the location of the first funeral home in Canyon. In 1973, the first interment took place and the cemetery, known at time as Greenwood Cemetery began operation. Many years of property development and sales programs were all part of those early days. This involved local people selling cemetery property to family, friends, and co-workers. One of those sales people was a gentleman named Bryan Baker, an educator. There is a memorial located with the Brooke Cemetery bearing his name, The Bryan Baker Memorial Gazebo. Brooke Cemetery had numerous name changes in the past , countless number of owners, all adding their bits of character to the cemetery.
